I am Katherine Barbacci

I live in Alexandria, VA.

My favorite part of where I live is the trees in my yard and the creek across from my house that I walk around every day. The trees and creeks are home to so many fantastic wildlife. Bird watching has become my newest hobby. But I love to spot chipmunks, rabbits, and red foxes too!

I Like I love people. I’m grateful that the pandemic is coming to an end. I enjoy entertaining in my backyard, and I recently became a middle school math teacher. I love working with other dedicated teachers to inspire young people.

I Dislike Any meanness or misjudgment of people without thinking about what they have been through or an effort to know them.

My favorite Ice cream flavor is I have three: Pralines and Cream and Peanut butter And chocolate. 

If I have to choose between a mountain or a beach? Beach! But I have learned to appreciate the mountains and freshwater lakes. So refreshing!

My favorite place in nature is The sea or ocean- I love swimming among sea life.  

The leadership philosophy that inspires me the most is Leading by example and expressing love. That is how I live and how I teach my students. Showing young people to respect and love themselves and those around them and create a safe environment enables them to explore, learn, and reach their full potential.

If I have the opportunity to be an ambassador for two of the sustainable goals, I will choose

Goal #6 “Clean Water and Sanitation” and Goal #8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth.” I drink water all day long, and it is challenging to think that some cannot access clean water. Yet, it is crucial to our health and wellbeing. The pandemic has shown just how many people in the US do not make a living wage, as many opt to accept unemployment instead of returning to low-paying jobs. And since healthcare is connected to our jobs and employment in the US, it is important that people are employed for the sake of their family’s health.
